Easter Sunday Thought

“This day was made by the Lord, we rejoice and are glad”.

At the Easter Vigil we welcomed to the parish community and into the full communion of the Catholic Church, Kelly Marie Adams, Catherine Graham-Evans, Michael Grounsell and David Griffiths.  I would like to thank Nick Kelly and the Journey of Faith Team for all the hard and persevering work that they have done to support our new members. We also celebrate with Natalie Burnand and her family as she receives the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Kelly Marie and Catherine were baptised.  Michael, David, Natalie and the rest of us renewed our baptismal commitment after we heard the prayer at the end of the blessing of the font “May all who are buried with Christ in the death of baptism rise also with him to newness of life”. It is the Holy Spirit who is the giver of that new life and he urges on to be people of mission.

Our baptism  makes us people of the resurrection and those called to witness to his presence in the world.  Our “Easter” task is to proclaim in word, action and the manner and style of our relationships that the Spirit of Christ is transforming our world and bringing to each person the promise of bodily resurrection.

As we rejoice and are glad on this Easter Day let us reflect on the words of St. Paul: “When we were baptised in Christ Jesus we were baptised in his death; in other words, when we were baptised we went into the tomb with him and joined him in death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father’s glory, we too might live a new life.  If in union with Christ we have imitated his death, we shall also imitate him in his resurrection.” (Romans 5 6. 3-7)

I would like to thank everyone for the greetings and generosity that the clergy have received in the run up to Easter. On behalf of the Clergy Team I wish everyone a happy Easter. (PJT)
