Pastoral Letter from Bishop Crispian - Feb 2012

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

In the course of the last year – since Ash Wednesday of last year - I’ve had many rich and wonderful and demanding experiences because this has been an extraordinary year for me. Not only has my resignation been accepted, though I am still awaiting the naming and appointment of my successor, but also I have had to undergo two major operations for cancer. To say that this has changed my life and my outlook on life is a massive understatement. From being an active leader in good health and giving support and encouragement to others, I suddenly have become one of those needing support; for the first time in my life, I have received the Sacrament of the Sick and have become one of those listed in parish newsletters as being sick and in need of prayers. And yet, all the time the loving face of Christ has been there for strength and comfort...

Bishop Crispian: Health Bulletin

Hopefully, this will be last of these bulletins in which I’ve tried to keep you all abreast of what been happening to me.

I went back into hospital last Monday and under the care of the same surgeon, Mr Jim Khan, I was given a reversal of the ileostomy that had been put in place in September. I am glad to say that the operation was successful and no further treatment is envisaged.

I am back at Bishop’s House now for a further period of convalescence, assisted by the care of the community that makes up Bishop’s House and the Cathedral parish.

Once again, I want to say that I don’t think I could have come through the traumas of the last three months without your constant, love, care and prayers, so please know how grateful I am. In many ways, that care and love were most abundantly shown to me at the Mass of Thanksgiving celebration last Saturday.

With my blessings and prayers,

+Crispian
